Got Questions?
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a driving test booked already?
You do not need a confirmed date to look for an eligible short-notice test. Check the booking options in your MyRoadSafety account first. If you already have a test, we can help you look for an earlier eligible date. Choose Notify for email alerts or AutoBook where available. Your service choice determines whether you book yourself or complete secure AutoBook setup after payment.
How does the RSA driving test booking system work?
Apply through MyRoadSafety and join the RSA waiting list for a booking invitation. Eligible short-notice appointments can also appear in the portal; they are not a separate list held by RSA customer agents. IrishDrivingTests.com monitors your selected centres and dates for matching appointments, with Notify email alerts or AutoBook where available. A short-notice test cannot be cancelled or rescheduled after booking, so choose a date you can attend.
Where can I find RSA driving test cancellation slots?
Available short-notice slots appear in MyRoadSafety. The RSA says its customer agents do not hold a separate cancellation list. IrishDrivingTests.com helps you look for suitable earlier appointments at the centres and dates you choose. Select Notify for email alerts, or AutoBook where available. You can check the RSA's current short-notice booking guidance before choosing an appointment.
How quickly will I get an earlier test?
Most of our users find an earlier test within 1 to 5 days. Choose dates you can attend, and be ready to book when a suitable appointment appears. Our AutoScan performs 5,000+ scans per day around the clock, so you don't need to sit there refreshing MyRoadSafety yourself.
What do I need before I can take my driving test in Ireland?
You'll need to have held your learner permit for at least 6 months, completed all 12 Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons with an RSA-approved instructor, and passed the Driver Theory Test. The test itself costs €85. On the day, bring a roadworthy vehicle with valid NCT, tax, and insurance.
What's the difference between Auto-Book and Notify?
With AutoBook, we log into your MyRoadSafety.ie account and reschedule your test automatically when a matching cancellation appears. It's the fastest option because we grab the slot the moment it shows up. With Notify, we send you an email alert when a cancellation appears, and you log into MyRoadSafety yourself to grab it. That one works well if you want to check with your instructor first or prefer to stay in control of the booking.
Is IrishDrivingTests.com affiliated with the RSA?
No. We're a fully independent service. We monitor the official RSA booking system at MyRoadSafety.ie for cancellations and help you grab an earlier slot. Your actual driving test is still run by RSA testers at their official test centres.
How is the Irish driving test marked?
The test uses three grades of fault. Grade 1 faults are minor and don't count against you. Grade 2 faults are more serious. Pick up 9 or more Grade 2 faults overall, or get 4 of the same Grade 2 fault in one area, and you'll fail. A single Grade 3 fault means dangerous driving and is an automatic fail. Across the country, the average pass rate sits at roughly 53%.
What are the current driving test waiting times in Ireland?
It depends on the centre. Most are somewhere between 10 and 22 weeks right now. Busy Dublin centres like Finglas and Tallaght tend to have the longest waits. Smaller centres like Clifden or Kilrush can be quicker. The RSA has been hiring more testers to bring the backlog down, but demand is still high. That's why a lot of people use IrishDrivingTests.com to find a cancellation and skip the queue.
How can I get an earlier driving test in Ireland?
The quickest way is to use a cancellation monitoring service like IrishDrivingTests.com. We scan the RSA booking system at MyRoadSafety.ie every 60 seconds for cancellation slots across all 55 test centres. When someone cancels their test, we either book the slot for you automatically (AutoBook) or send you an email alert so you can grab it yourself (Notify). Most users find an earlier test within 1 to 5 days. You can also try checking MyRoadSafety manually, but cancellations get snapped up within seconds, so an automated service gives you a much better chance.
Can I change my driving test date on MyRoadSafety.ie?
If your current booking is eligible for changes, you can reschedule it to another available appointment through MyRoadSafety.ie. The RSA's change rules still apply, including the restriction on changing short-notice tests. The catch is that available slots are rare at popular centres, and when a cancellation does appear, it gets taken almost immediately. That's where IrishDrivingTests.com comes in. We monitor for those cancellation slots around the clock and can reschedule your test the moment one appears, so you don't have to keep refreshing the page yourself.
How do I find driving test cancellations in Dublin?
Dublin has some of the longest waiting times in Ireland, with centres like Finglas, Tallaght, Killester, and Churchtown all heavily booked. IrishDrivingTests.com monitors all Dublin test centres with 5,000+ scans per day. With our Notify plan, you can watch up to 3 Dublin centres at once, and AutoBook covers up to 5. Adding multiple centres dramatically increases your chances of finding a cancellation quickly. Most Dublin users find an earlier slot within 1 to 5 days.
What is the driving test pass rate in Ireland?
The national average pass rate for the Irish driving test is roughly 53%, though it varies significantly by centre. Some smaller centres have pass rates above 65%, while busier urban centres can sit closer to 45%. The test uses three grades of fault: Grade 1 (minor, no penalty), Grade 2 (more serious, 9 or more means a fail), and Grade 3 (dangerous, automatic fail). You can check the pass rate for any specific centre on our test centre pages.
How long is the waiting list for a driving test in Ireland?
RSA driving test waiting times currently range from about 10 weeks at quieter centres to over 22 weeks at the busiest ones. Dublin, Cork, and Galway centres tend to have the longest waits. The RSA has been working to reduce the backlog by hiring additional testers, but demand remains high. If you don't want to wait months, IrishDrivingTests.com can help you find a cancellation slot and get tested much sooner, often within days rather than weeks.
What documents do I need for my driving test in Ireland?
On the day of your test, you'll need your learner permit (the card itself, not a photocopy), and the vehicle you're using must have valid NCT (if applicable), motor tax, and insurance. The car needs to display L-plates and be roadworthy. You should also bring your confirmation email from MyRoadSafety.ie. Before you can even sit the test, you must have held your learner permit for at least 6 months, completed 12 EDT lessons with an RSA-approved instructor, and passed the Driver Theory Test.
Is there a cancellation checker for Irish driving tests?
Yes. IrishDrivingTests.com is Ireland's driving test cancellation checker. We scan the RSA booking system at MyRoadSafety.ie with 5,000+ scans per day across all 55 test centres nationwide. When a cancellation slot appears that matches your preferences, we either book it for you automatically or send you an alert. Plans start from just a one-off payment with no subscription. We keep scanning until you find your earlier test or your current date comes around.
How much does the Irish driving test cost?
The RSA driving test costs €85, which you pay directly to the RSA when you apply through MyRoadSafety.ie. If you fail and need to rebook, you'll pay €85 again for the retest. IrishDrivingTests.com is a separate service that helps you find an earlier test date by monitoring for cancellations. Our plans are a one-off payment with no subscription, and we scan your chosen centres 5,000+ times per day until we find you an earlier slot.
